Andes, South America: Peru

In June 2010 I joined an 11 day trek around the remote and rugged Cordillera Huayhuash in Peru. The hike passed over a number of 15-16,000 ft. passes, always in the shadows of huge glaciated peaks rising up to 21,000+ feet. Our trek was supported by burros to carry our camping gear, a burro driver, a guide, and a cook! See my blog for hiking/camping/people photos from the trek!

I also went on a few shorter treks in the Cordillera Blanca, a massive rugged mountain range near the town of Huaraz.  Below are photos from these two spectular mountain ranges of the Peruvian Andes.
