Patagonia

From mid-November to mid-December 2007, I spent a month backpacking in Patagonia. During the first few weeks, I was hiking amongst the jagged peaks of the Fitz Roy Range in Parque Nacional los Glaciares near Chaltén, Argentina. Then I spent 10 days backpacking through Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.

Situated near the southern tip of South America, between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Patagonia is a region notorious for its nasty weather - especially the relentless wind. I was fortunate to have a few beautiful calm days, but for the most part the weather lived up to its reputation, and the photography was pretty challenging. Oftentimes the peaks were covered in clouds, and I was lucky to just catch a glimpse of the summits. Other times the wind blew so strong that just standing was tough enough, nevermind setting up a tripod and camera!

Despite the challenging weather, I had a great time hiking and camping amongst these awesome mountains, and fortunately I came home with lots of photos to share with you.
